Main Dish

ingredients needed

  • 500g ground beef, 1 small onion (finely chopped), 1 clove garlic (minced), 1/2 cup breadcrumbs, 1/4 cup milk, 1 egg, salt, pepper, 1 tsp ground allspice
  • 3 tbsp butter, 2 tbsp olive oil (for frying),
  • 800g potatoes (peeled and chopped), 100ml milk, 50g butter, salt, pepper
  • 200ml beef broth, 100ml heavy cream, 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp Dijon mustard, 1 tbsp flour (for gravy)

directions

  • Soak breadcrumbs in milk for 5 minutes. In a bowl, mix ground beef, soaked breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, allspice, salt, and pepper until combined. Form into small meatballs.
  • Heat butter and olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry meatballs until browned on all sides and cooked through (about 8-10 minutes). Remove and keep warm.
  • Boil potatoes in salted water until tender. Drain and mash with butter and warm milk. Season with salt and pepper.
  • For the gravy, add flour to the pan with meatball drippings and cook for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in beef broth, cream, soy sauce, and mustard. Simmer until thickened.
  • Serve meatballs with mashed potatoes and pour gravy over the top.
